Welcome to Ice Caps Finnish Spitz! We have been breeding these beautiful, still relatively rare dogs since 1988 with several premises in mind. First and foremost is character. The Finnish Spitz is an ideal family dog that is faithful to its owners but does not require attachment to only one family member as found in many other breeds. They have a natural affinity for children but one of their desirable characteristics is that they will be equally faithful to various family members. In addition, they should be a lively yet friendly companion. Our breeding program has sought to preserve the breed's outgoing personality while ensuring that our puppies do not develop an aggressive temperament.

The second premise on which our kennel was founded is that a breeder has a responsiblity to breed healthy dogs. The Finnish Spitz has few genetic health problems such as hip displasia in comparison to many breeds. We seek to breed healthy dogs and all of our puppies are sold with a health guarantee. Our dogs that we breed have received OFA certifications of good to excellent on their hips.

Finally, we attempt to breed dogs for the show ring that are an improvement on their sire and dam by combining the best characteristics of both. The standard for the conformation ring envisions the perfect dog that is a goal for each breeder to strive for, but does not exist in reality. We are certain enough of the quality of our puppies, however, to guarantee that those sold as show quality will finish in the show ring to receive their AKC championship title.
