We began our showing and breeding lives in 1968 with Malamutes. By 1986 we were ready for a different breed due to the many genetic issues with the Mals and their size. We have for the most part handled our dogs rather than putting them out with professional handlers, and Nancy preferred the size of the Finnish Spitz over the Mals. We had seen Finnish Spitz and were struck by their attractiveness, their soundness and their temperament. More importantly, after extensive research we were aware that this was a breed with few genetic health issues, which remains the case today. At the time we began looking for Finkies they were not yet recognized by the AKC. In 1987 we attended the first national match in Tulsa,OK and took two Finkies with us, Briana and Falcon. After meeting other Finkie owners and breeders, we made the decision to begin breeding these wonderful dogs.

We first met Phantom when he was six months old and we transported him to the first national specialty match in Tulsa. We were struck by his movement even at that young age. Nearly two years later, we had the good fortune to acquire him and he remains the basis for our lines. Our opinion of him was validated when he took a Best in Show win which is unusual for this breed in the U.S. due to its scarcity.

Our dogs are first and foremost pets with ring attitude a distant concern. Consequently, we have focused first on temperament in our breedings. We have sought to improve the breed's front which is weak in many Finkies. Overall movement, from front, side and rear, is also a priority. We are lucky to have beautiful movement in Phantom and many of his offspring. Finally, we have emphasized sound structure and health. We will continue to emphasize these areas as we enter our third generation.
